The QTC Pride & Prejudice is a visual feast and a story for our time. A strong cast and an exceptionally impressive creative team together bring the words and thoughts of 19th century couples into the present day.  

I recommend the A Midnight Social production of Jesse Eisenberg’s The Revisionist as an opportunity to see three strong performances. Like me, you may come away feeling that you’d never like to meet someone like David, and that the playwright could perhaps have made some revisions to this play. However…..

Camerata’s Revolution Remixed includes an impressive performance of Beethoven’s Eroica, and an arrangement of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition by Julian Yu—making for a very pleasant way in which to spend a cool, late May, Friday evening in Brisbane.

The Agent a light-hearted mixture of physics, philosophy, property, and poo. An enjoyable world premiere at the 2026 Anywhere Festival was a fun demonstration of the talents of a local writer, director and cast.

A concrete ‘brutalistic’ former factory might be considered an incongruous place in which to encounter the talents of acclaimed musicians, but the recent Basement Baroque show was a marvellous addition to the 2026 Anywhere Festival program.

The Bucket List is a memorable show that shares the personal bucket list priorities of each of the members of the cast, and features… buckets. This latest Screech Arts’ production is a funny, charming, clever, and important piece, that encourages audiences to listen, reflect and act.

I am delighted to report that the The Ladysinger’s Record Parlour (Vol.3) selection is a special and eclectic mix of music that is both new and old for me. And I’d love to buy a recording…

The Heartbreak Club is a play that is light on the serious homicidal ideas, and heavy on the gentle comedy and healing.

Electric Universe is an unforgettable show that is an exhilarating and highly professional piece of contemporary dance. And one that I am delighted to highly recommend.

The talented SDC group has taken the microscopic process of Exocytosis as the inspiration for a mesmerising contemporary dance work—making the processes that take place within our brains ‘visible’ in an inspiring and intriguing performance.

All Smoke, No Script is a great idea, and I do like the long-form improv format. I enjoyed the show, but felt there were a few points where the pace needed to be lifted. If you want to have ‘I saw it at the 2026 Festival’ bragging rights, you need to be quick as these detectives are leaving the factory tomorrow. Just be ready with those suggestions.

Euphoric Flow’s Mythical Creatures is an original, otherworldly, and enthralling show that combines aerial, fire, and acro to bring mythical beings to ‘life.’ My personal highlights included the fire-breathing Dragon and ‘Forest Nymph’ lyra, but I am sure many audience members loved the Mermaids, Flying Monkey , and Phoenix even more.

Half Hour Hamlet is one of the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble’s ‘Shakespeare Shorts.’ This is a show that absolutely delivers on its promise—and more. This has to be one of the most entertaining ways in which to enjoy and reconnect with Shakespeare’s work.

Sometimes a show isn’t quite what you expected—which can have both pros and cons. Shakespeare Dying on the Stage delivers on the promised fun and occasional chaos, but this is more of a funny improv duo performance than a staging of all 74 of the onstage Shakespearean deaths.

Congratulations to the performers and creatives who have together crafted a new show as a showcase of the skill and passion of the Moreton Bay dance, acrobatic, pole and aerial students and of their teacher.

Punk Rock Potter is ostensibly focused on entertaining kids, but this is a show that has plenty to keep the accompanying ‘big people’ amused.

Smile: The story of the life of Charlie Chaplin is timeless and charming story-telling that makes audiences laugh, smile, and more. It is unsurprising that Marcel Cole has created another festival gem that sells out very quickly.

Second Beat Productions and Big Fork Theatre are excellent partners and have created a memorable show that certainly deserves to be on high repeat.

How to Seduce Your Dragon is a sometimes silly, slightly smutty, and suitably entertaining piece of improvised comic theatre with music..

The QTC production of The Sapphires is a funny and occasionally uplifting drama, that features four excellent singers and a strong band. ‘Get on Up!’ if you can.

Speed: The Movie, The Play is the perfect fringe and comedy festival show. It’s funny, fast-paced, immersive, and a must-see event. With all of the madness going on in the world, this is exactly the silliness and sheer joy that everyone needs. Answer the opening ‘are you ready to ride the bus?’ call, and get to see this show.

Die-Mommie Die! is a delicious melodrama. Yes, it might be fun to see a ‘fully-camped’ version with a cast of Drag Queens and Kings. But this Midnight Social PIP Theatre show is funny, slightly dark, and a good evening’s entertainment. Go if you can.

Sunny Tribe District is a good graduation showcase, but it has a very niche audience. I have seen several members of the cast in other shows and know that they are a talented bunch. But if you were born before the year 2000, this is probably not a show for you.

There is much to enjoy in the latest QTC production, but I came away feeling slightly disappointed—probably because I wanted to love Torch The Place more than I did. Benjamin Law is a talented and prolific Queensland writer, and recent QTC productions of Calamity Jane, A Few Good Men, and The Great Gatsby have set a high bar.

Stephen Vagg has written a funny, clever, and closely observed short play.  The talented Tammy Tresillian and Simon Chugg bring Vagg’s sidekicks and heroes to life, performing in front of enthusiastic audiences at the excellent PIP Theatre. Get along if you can and see if you agree with my list of favourite moments.

The Great Gatsby is a high-energy show that deserves to sell-out: fantastic direction of a great cast,  in a beautifully staged and thought-provoking adaptation.

DV Live’s Love Actually? A Musical Parody gets a definitely, absolutely, solid NO from me. I just hope you read this review first, as the terms and conditions are very firmly ‘no refunds.’
